My first job out of college was with a United States Senator in his Washington, D.C. office. That was in the 1980’s, a much simpler time when civility and listening to one another were important parts of our democracy.
I cut my teeth in politics on Capitol Hill. My boss taught me the importance of constituent services and that we were in Washington for one reason: to represent the voters who put him there.
I believe elected officials should wake up every morning with the knowledge that they must earn anew the privilege to serve. I believe in inclusive, open, transparent government that is held accountable to those it is meant to represent.
I am a leader who listens.
