Given the acknowledged errors last night in the reported election results for multiple cities in Ramsey County, including St. Paul, and to ensure the integrity of the election, my campaign has spoken to Joe Mansky, Manager of Ramsey County Elections. A detailed explanation was given and I am satisfied that the problem occurred with the transmission of election results from Ramsey County to the Minnesota Secretary of State. Ramsey County is reviewing their software to prevent such an error in future.
I wholeheartedly believe in the power of democracy and the vital importance of integrity in our electoral process. I thank Mr. Mansky and his team for paying close attention to this issue.
I congratulate my opponent, Mitra Jalali Nelson, on her victory. It has been my honor and privilege to participate in this process and to get to know her. I wish her well as she assumes the mantle of Ward 4 St. Paul City Council Member.
Our campaign was truly a grassroots effort and nothing short of a miracle. We learned as we went along and sometimes it felt like a leap of faith off a very high cliff.
When my family and I made the decision to embark on this journey back in February, we didn’t know if our daughter was in remission from cancer or not. Thankfully, I can report she is in remission. Throughout the next six months, just like for you, life continued to go on and throw us some punches and bless us with gifts. I ended up with walking pneumonia, a partially-compressed lung, and bronchitis. We welcomed a young woman and her new baby into our lives. Our youngest daughter graduated from college and flew the nest to Panama.
Some of our campaign volunteers suffered “campaign sports injuries” like plantar fasciitis, torn muscles requiring crutches, and knees so painful steps had to be taken backwards. Still, they didn’t stop but persisted for the sake of our campaign and the belief that we’re all in this together. We began door knocking with ice and snow and ended with 90º temps and high humidity.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Life goes on and stresses, pressures, joys, miracles, and everything in between don’t stop for a campaign. We took this journey together, you made my world bigger, and I will be forever grateful.
Best Wishes Always,
